Happy New Year to you all!
2022 has begun in anger and I've already started to fill up the year with events. The big ticket item for me is signing up to the Green Man Double: doing the Winter Green Man in March followed by the Summer Green Man in August. I just really want that buckle dammit!
For other events we have the Anfan Forest Half Marathon with the Running Punks in February, the Pembrokeshire Trail Marathon in April and the Stroud Trails Ultra in May.
To kick things off I've built a plan for the first quarter to get my legs ready for the WGMU, with this structure:
The main tenants of the plan are:
- Increasing the total distance by no more than 10% each week to reduce the risk of injury
- Lots of intervals and hill reps for strength training, I didn't do enough of this last time round
- Back to back runs on weekends, these were critical last time (if a little soul destroying by the end of the plan!)
Only 9 weeks to go, when planned out like that it seems like it'll come round fast! Last time I had 19 weeks so this certainly feels compressed in comparison.
